Common causes of running or non-contact sports injuries
There are a plethora of perceived causes of injuries, such as gender, age, asymmetries, muscle imbalances, high arches, flat feet, footwear, running surface, flexibility, etc.
However, training error is the primary factor directly associated with non-contact sports injuries according to a study.
What is a training error?
Training error is too much, too soon.
When our body is introduced to stimulus, it adapts, and it changes. This adaptation includes improved strength, flexibility and loading capacity of the tissue.
However, if enough recovery time is not given, it leaves the body prone to injury.
How to prevent over-training injuries?
One way to prevent running and non-contact sports injuries is to give your body enough recovery time for the adaptation to take place and your tissues to become stronger.
Another way to prevent this is by not doing the same stimulus every day and change up your exercises.
Also, get checked up by a physical therapist. See if you possibly have any muscle imbalances or poor movement patterns that you think is normal for you but aren’t optimal that can cause an injury and pain.
